What is Basics4Marriage?
Basics4Marriage is the updated name of a long established marriage preparation program active in the Bay Area since the
early 1980's. Fresh material has been added to reflect new understandings of the marriage relationship in today’s culture.
Basics4Marriage has consolidated its program from a whole weekend to an all-day-Saturday event. These changes were so
extensive that the program’s name was changed from “Engaged Encounter.”
Basics4Marriage can offer this valuable workshop at a low cost because the use of the facility is a gift of the church where
the program is presented. The program is open and effective for ALL heterosexual couples, regardless of their age, or
religious affiliation.

What Happens On A Basics4Marriage Workshop?
Three married couples lead the workshop. They present a series of short talks taken from their own lives. After each
presentation, couples are given question/guides for personal reflection, followed by private discussion. Couples are never
asked to share publicly their opinions, experiences, situations, or anything else.
